Appendix 1.5 Letter Sent to Respondees on Lines that had already Tested

Brimer and Brymer Surname Origin Research Project

4 January 2015

Dear

Thank you very much for the information that you have provided and your interest in taking part in the study.

Unfortunately, as the project is entirely self-funded and I am only able to pay for a limited number of tests, I have had to restrict how many people I can test in each branch. This is so that all of the nine branches of the surname going back to the early 1800s can be represented and the fullest picture of the family possible be obtained. I am currently DNA testing up to three people who are 3rd cousins or greater on each of these branches. Due to a very good response on your branch, these criteria have already been met and unless someone drops out or an unexpected result is received, I will be unable to pay to test your DNA. The tests already being done will reveal information about your branch and where it fits in with the other branches of the Brimer / Brymer family.

I would be very grateful if you were still willing to take part in the project in other ways, for example:

  • I am looking for scans or copies of early photographs of members of the Brimer or Brymer family that could be used to illustrate the project and / or used on the website.
  • I would like to hear any old family stories or legends.
  • I would also like to hear about any family events, recent or past, which could form the basis of a blog article.

If you would still like your own DNA to be tested and included in the project, I have access to a reduction through the university and can obtain test kits for $119 instead of $169 usually charged by the test company.

Thank you again for your interest and I will of course keep you updated as the research progresses.

Yours sincerely,

Debbie Brimer PGDip (Genealogical Studies) Postgraduate Student Genealogical Studies Postgraduate Programme
